Sixty Cases of Discrimination reflected in the report of Coalition for Equality

March 30, 2018

Today, Coalition for Equality published the report providing a detailed review of cases litigated by the coalition member organizations to the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, Common Courts and the Constitutional Court.

From 2016 through 2017 organizations litigated 60 cases. Discrimination on the ground of disability is at the top of the cases litigated by the Coalition, which is followed by discrimination on the grounds of gender, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity, place of residence, ethnicity etc. The report showcases that most of the problems are not complicated and can be solved with involvement of the community members, for instance, adaptation of government web sites to the needs of blind people who are not able to obtain information about social benefits and other social services. The report includes the cases proving that the social protection system is unfair and fails to meet the needs of socially vulnerable individuals.
